TT has replied to Clare Critchison to confirm display space for Cyclewight at the launch event. This is from 11 am on Saturday 22 September in St James Square. TT will be away at this time and VGL/AL will take display materials, table & chairs. TT will contact other committee members to fill a rota. ***TT/VGL/AL***
The Abundance Scrumping Ride, starting at 3pm, is organised by Suzie Mundell, with VGL. TR, SG & AL will also help. Baskets will be useful.
The Hills Killers are on Sunday 23 September. The route is via the Hoy's Monument at St Catherine's Down, where a figure of cycling Gold Medallist Chris Hoy will be erected. The National Trust and Chris Hoy's publicity team have been contacted. The Events team are providing the figure. ***TT***
The Chevy Chase: Four Hour Enduro, at Cheverton Farm, is on Sunday 30 September with practice laps on the previous day.
West Wight &
The National Trust have plans to upgrade footpaths to permissive bridleways at Mottistone and at Tennyson Down. The latter scheme has been opposed by Freshwater Parish Council. It is important that cyclists send letters of support to Robin Lang, National Trust Manager, Longstone Farmhouse, Strawberry Lane, Mottistone, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 4EA (see Cyclewight website). ***ALL MEMBERS***
Possible routes from Newport to West Wight were discussed along with funding. VGL asked about the Government Paths for Communities (P4C) scheme which she had contacted by phone. To submit a scheme it is necessary to complete a 500 word proposal. AL & VGL will follow this up. ***AL/VGL***
This will be on Friday 30 November 2012. TR suggested the Riverside Centre which is central and well known. TT & AL have history with this, and it was decided to approach Newport C of E School where the AGM has taken place of recent years (although Mrs T has now retired). ***TT***
The choice of a speaker threw up: Chris Hoy (or his figure), Boris Johnson, or the Chair of the All-party Parliamentary Cycle Group. ***TT***
TT had cycled by Quarr Abbey, Fishbourne Lane and the short-cut avoiding traffic lights. It was agreed to push for upgrading this. **TT**
Mince Pie Ride
TT has asked Steve Archer to look for a venue in West Wight. ***TT/SA***
There will be a meeting convened by the council Highways department to discuss the LSTF proposals and priorities. Cyclewight will be invited to send a representative, which could be TT or VGL.
The Cycle Forum minutes are on the website, and next Forum will be on Wednesday 10 th October at 6pm at Isle of Wight Fire & rescue Service HQ, Newport. Invitations to be circulated right away. ***AL***
