Update 12 05 2022

Campaigning > Cyclewight Latest Update
Some brief notes on what we have been up to over the last few weeks.
We have been doing some work on the Wootton gravel works planning permission which will mean 50 lorry journeys a day using Brocks Copse Road and Alverstone Road  We will show the popularity of the route for leisure and commuting cyclists. By using Strava and other sources of data we have extrapolated how much it is used. There is mention of an off road route but we believe that it will not be a suitable replacement for a heavily used route.
You may well have seen that the Pennyfeathers and Gunville planning permissions have also been resurrected. It would appear very little has been changed and so will resubmit our comments. It is a shame when there are new guidelines on cycle infrastructure they appear to have had little effect. There are suggestions to use Taylor Road in Gunville to mitigate some of the extra traffic. We believe this is wrong as it is at present a highly used walking and cycling route. Elsewhere though It is good to see that some of CW's recommendations were accepted for the Northwood Reservoir planning consent.
Newport parade for the Queen's Jubilee  takes place on 4th June. Are you interested in taking part with a decorated bike / cycle theme? If so please contact Lucinda Bradley  Lucinda.Bradley@newportwight.org.uk

CycleWight will have a stand at the Riverfest at Newport Harbour on May 14th. It is on from 10-4. We will have bells to give away, a route planning service as well as 'sound advice' and bonhomie. The cargo bikes will be there as well as Island Bikeworks with tips on how to look after your bike or if you bring it down, a bit of a tweak. There will be an opportunity to try out an e-bike as well as give an old bike to Re-Cycle.. It will be great to see everyone. riverfest.org.uk

Finally, some of you may have seen the 'repairs' to the cycle path between Blackwater and NatureZones. We have been in contact with IWC over this and hope they are hastily improved as they are from satisfactory.

Thanks to everyone who continue to re-join and support our work.
